Any suspension component contact with the fuel system is unacceptable. Suspension components
must clear the fuel tank(s) throughout their functional geometry, by 2 inchesminimum.
Recognize that the rubber fuel filler hose can sagwithage. Provide sufficient suspension clearance
or fuel filler hose support topreclude interference.
AM-E0405
All suspension components loosened, or removedand reinstalled, must beproperly reassembled
(new fastenerswhen required) and torqued inaccordancewith theFord
ShopManual.

AmbulanceQVMProgram4 x 4 conversions are permittedonly onmodels that Forddoes not build
witha4 x 4option. All
C/FMVSS
issuesmust beaddressed, including

BRAKES
AM-E0501
It is the responsibility of themodifier to complywith
C/FMVSS105
if any changes aremade to the
OEM system.
AM-E0502
Brake system line changes should follow theguidelines in
QVMBulletinQ-18, Guidelines for
ModifyingFordLight TruckWheelbases.
AM-E0503
Thebrake fluid reservoirmust remainaccessible for servicingand for addingbrake fluid. Note that
theFord reservoir is translucent to facilitate checking the level of fluidwithout opening the reservoir,
thereby reducing the risk of contamination. Avoidobstructing the viewof the reservoir level.
AM-E0504
Splicing theparkingbrake cable is unacceptable.
Anew cablemust beused. Follow
QVMBulletinQ-18, Guidelines forModifyingFordLight Truck
Wheelbases.
AM-E0507
Thebrake systemmust be fully functional when the vehicle is completed. Considerationmust be
given to theEMI/RFI effect of added components to theOEMABS system.

POWERTRAIN–ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, andAXLES
AM-E0601
ThePowertrainControl Module (PCM) has a “keepalive”memory system that adjusts driveability
performanceunder varyingdriving conditions andprovides component history for servicediagnostics.
The loss of battery power will temporarily defeat this feature. Abnormal transmissionoperation canbe
expected for some timeafter disconnectionuntil thememory system can re-establish this history.
Theadditionof abattery cut-off switch, if used, requires themaintenanceof power to theappropriate
pinof thePCMat all times (SeeCommonSectionE1103).

AM-E0602
Allow for any cab-to-framealignment adjustments that aremadeor for potential settlingof the cab
due to secondunit body attachment.Movement of the cab relative to the framemay requirea
readjustment of the transmissiongear selector and “PRNDL” indicator. Refer to the shopmanual.
Refer to the
IncompleteVehicleManual
for
C/FMVSS102
compliance considerations.

Welding toanaxleassembly is unacceptable. It can causedamage towheel bearings, races, and
seals. It canalsoweaken theaxle tube.
