•
Tanks removed for processing shouldbe storedwhereprotectedandall openings of the removed
tank and thedisconnected fuel linesmust be cappedat all times. Dirt anddust canplug fuel
filters or causeenginedamage.
•
Fuel tank clearance to secondunit body or frame components is 3/4 inch, minimum. All body
mounting rubber componentsmust be removedwhendetermining if there is compliance to this
dimension. Thismetal-to-metal condition simulates the rubber compressingor decomposingover
time.

FUELFILLER
Fuel fillers onnewunitsmustmeet the locations specified in the
IncompleteVehicleManual.
•
Fuel filler locationona remountmay deviate slightly from the specified location, providing the
builder follows the criteriapublished in the IVM.
•
Modifications or welding to fuel filler pipemust beavoided.
•
Fuel filler and vent hosesmust not beexposed to sharp corners and shouldhaveaminimumof 1
inch clearance to thebody and surrounding chassis components (except the frame). Shieldingor
abrasionprotectionmust beprovided toprotect fuel filler and vent hoseswith less clearance to
exposededges or corners. If the fuel filler hoses or vent hoses are replaced, thenewhose
material mustmeet FordEngineeringSpecifications.
•
Hose clampsmust bewormgear drive type, be installed insideof thenormal exterior body
surfaceplane, andbeproperly torqued.
•
The fuel fillermountingat thebodymust not allowany fuel or vapor toenter thepassenger or
cargoarea. Spillage (fuel overflowor kick back)must bedirected toward theground.
•
The fuel filler pipemust be sealedoff fromdust anddirt during thebuildprocess. Use the filler
capor amasking cover toprevent in-process contamination.

FUELLINES
The cuttingof fuel lines is unacceptable. Always usenew lines per
QMVBulletinQ-18, Guidelines
forModifyingFordLight TruckWheelbases.
Auxiliary fuel ports areavailable in the fuel sender to
provide fuel topower auxiliary equipment. Fuel tanksmust not be tapped.
AM-E0704
The fuel systemmust provide fuel delivery (supply and return) without leakage.

EXHAUSTSYSTEM
AM-E0801
•
Exhaust heat or grass shields attached to theOEMexhaust systemmust be left intact.
AM-E0802
•
Exhaust component extensionsmust be similarly shielded.
•
Exhaust pipesmust not be routednear fuel tanks or under the fuel filler.
•
If theexhaust pipe is lengthened, theextensionmust be locatedaft of the catalyst.
•
Exhaust system revisionsmust consider the thermal expansionofmaterials tomaintaindesign
clearances.
•
Exhaust tail pipes that areextended rearwarddirectly past the spare tire should contain
adequateheat shielding toprotect the tire.
•
Themodifiedexhaust design shouldmaintain theOEMhanger bracket designand spacing.
•
Rerouted tailpipesmay require recertification to federal noisestandards. Refer to the
TruckBodyBuilders Layout Book.
