Welding, cutting, or drillingof theOE frame rail flanges is unacceptable, except in the frame
extensionareabehind the rear suspension. Donot weld toany part of the “L” reinforcement on the
F-Super Duty chassis cab frame.
Whendrillingholes in the frame side rail vertical web, follow the restrictions for hole sizes andedge
distances outlined in the
TruckBodyBuildersLayout Book.
Protect thebrake, fuel &electrical
systems during framedrilling.

GENERALFRAMEGUIDELINES
•
Always disconnect thebatteries andPCMbeforeweldingon the frame.
•
Framemodificationsmustmeet the requirements in
QVMBulletinQ-18, Guidelines for
ModifyingFordLight TruckWheelbasesandMVE-11.
•
All rear overhangs extending36 inches ormorebeyond the last OEM crossmember require
additional crossmembers for structural integrity.
•
Shortening the framebehind the rear spring shacklebracket is permissible. For theF-Super Duty
chassis, the following is required: Theoptional mid-ship fuel tankmust beordered. The rear
cross-membermust be removedand repositioned forward to thepredrilledholes in the frame.
The frame canbe cut at or aft of the two triangle shapedholes providedusinga cutoff wheel or
saw.

The removal and reinstallationof the front bumper on trucks of 10,000 lbGVWRor lessmust
conform to thedirections specified in the
FordTruckShopManual
tomaintain certification.
•
Alteringor relocating the front bumper on trucks of 10,000 lbGVWRor less requires
recertification to
C/FMVSS 301, Fuel System Integrity
.
Tomaintainacceptableminimumdepartureangles, 176 inchwheelbaseE-Series cutaways equipped
with theoptional 55gallon fuel tank requireaminimum frameextensionof 18 inches. Refer to
AppendixV.
