It is recommended that theSeatingReferencePoints (SRP) for thedriver and the front
passengers remain inagreement with the locations shown in the
IncompleteVehicleManual
.
Theuseof theOEM factory seats is recommended tohelp retainSRPandpass-through
certification. Also, refrain from revising the shoulder harness attachment, location, or
surrounding structure. Their relationship to theSRP is important to the restraint system
integrity. Full travel of thedriver's seat shall not be restricted.
E1007
If the factory seat belt restraints are removed for any reason, theoriginal belts shouldbe re-
installed in their original positionusing seat belt bolt tool number T77L-2100A or its equivalent.
Bolt torque shouldbeassuredonall re-installations (100percent) to shopmanual values.
Shoulder bolts andadded interior trimmust allow the restraint D-Ring to swivel tomaintain the
proper belt angle.
Modifications of theOEM seatingor restraint systemmay affect C/FMVSS207, 208, 209, and
210 compliance.
If new seatingand restraint systems are installed, C/FMVSS certificationof these systemsmust
be verified throughengineeringanalysis and testing.
Consider thepotential for torque loss if the seat pedestals and seat beltmountings
attach to the floor through layers of compressiblematerial suchas carpeting, trim,
particleboard, andplywood. Thesematerials "creep" or compress over timeand lose
bolt clamping load. Useprevailing torque fasteners or re-design toavoid this condition.
As aminimum, carpetingandpadding shouldbe cut away between the floor structural
material and thepedestal or seat beltmounting.
Donot use lagbolts for seat belt attachments. Usehighquality nuts, bolts, andback-up
washers at all locations. (If grade5bolts are specified, theassociatednuts and
washersmust alsobegrade5, etc.). Reinforce the floor inall fastener locations, if
necessary, tobeat least equal to theOEMdesigns.
E1008
The front seat and restraint systemadjustmentsmust beaccessibleandoperate freely on the
completed vehicle (OEMequivalent rotationand vertical adjustmentmovement of shoulder
harnessD-rings).
E1009
ManyFord vehicles areequippedwith front seat pedestalswitha restraint systempre-tensioner.
Because these seat pedestals are serializedandmatched to the chassis, buildersmust havea
methodof trackingandassuring the samepedestals removedduringbuildare reinstalled in the
same vehicle.
