AM-F0300 EDDY-CURRENTTYPEBRAKERETARDERS
AM-F0301 Theadditionof abrake retardermust not subvert theeffectiveness of theOEM anti-lock brake
system.
AM-F0302 Drivelineanglesmust not beadversely affectedby addingabrake retarder.
The final stagemanufacturer is responsible for compliance to
C/FMVSS105, HydraulicBrake
Systems,
and shouldqualify thebrakingperformanceof the vehicleusingabrake retarder under all
reasonably expectedweather and road surface conditions. Driver trainingunder variousweather
conditions shouldbe recommended to theuser toacclimate thedriver tobraking characteristics
unique to these vehicles.
AM-F0303 Assureproper electrical groundingof thebrake retarder. Grounding toFordpowertrain components
can result indamagedbearings. Thegroundingof brake retardersmust follow theseguidelines:
•
A2AWG (minimum) ground cablemust connect the retarder to the frame.
•
A second2AWGground cablemust connect the retarder ground to the vehiclebattery negative
terminal.
•
A third2AWGground cablemust connect thebattery negative terminal to the vehicle frame.
•
NEVER addaground cable from the vehicle frame to the transmission.
AM-F0400 WHEELBASECHANGESANDREARFRAMEEXTENSIONS
Refer to
MVE-11
and
QVMBulletinQ-18, Guidelines forModifyingFordLight Truck
Wheelbases,
for detailedguidelines for themodificationof wheelbase lengths or frameextensions.
ThisQVMBulletinalso covers thenecessary factors thatmust be considered for theassociated
electrical, fuel, exhaust, driveline, andbodymounting systems. Final stagemodifiers that choose to
modifyFord’s chassiswill be required toadhere to theseguidelines. The customer shouldbeadvised
of anymodificationsmade to theFord chassis and their potential implications on vehiclewarranty.
AM-F0401 Documentation is required showing that the following vehicle characteristics havebeenqualified:
•
Brakingperformance (Reference
C/FMVSS
105).
•
Vehicleattitudeandground clearance, includingdepartureangle.
•
Vehicle steeringandhandling.
AM-F0402 The frame splice technique, and themethods used to spliceand re-connect the related vehicle
systems, must be inaccordancewith theguidelines established in
MVE-11
and
QVMBulletinQ-18,
