TheAmbulancePrepPackage includes abuilt-in idle speed control, in thePowertrainControl
Module(PCM,
or ECM
) whichprovides theoperator a choice of either a fixedhigh idle speedor
voltagemaintenance. Voltagemaintenancewill maintainapositive charge rate, up to themaximum
enginedesign speed. Other idle speed advancedevicesmust not be installed.

All components removedduring themodificationprocess shouldbeproperly storedandprotected,
including connectors. Inaddition, theengineair inlet ductsmust be coveredwhenever they are
opened for any reason.

FUELSYSTEM
Beforeworkingon the vehicle fuel system, review the information contained in
QVMBulletinQ-
18, Guidelines forModifyingFordLight TruckWheelbases.
Whenweldinganywhereon the vehicle, precautionarymeasuresmust be taken toprevent
damage to vehicle components. Prior towelding, thebattery cables andPCMmust be
disconnectedandany partswhichwouldbedamaged shouldbe removedor adequately shielded.
After welding, when theweldments have cooled, reinstall the components per theFord
Truck
ShopManual
and inspect the fuel andelectrical components for damage.

FUELTANKS
A slight relocationof theaft of axleOEM fuel tank and fuel systemon vehicles of over 10,000 lb
GVWR is allowable for clearance reasons. This couldbenecessarywhen the rear suspension is
modified for anair suspension. However the fuel systemmust complywithC/FMVSS301andall
emission certification requirements.
Reinstallationof the fuel tank sender units always requires anew sender gasket andassurance
of proper torque. Refer to the
TruckShopManual or IVM
for the proper torque specifications.
Beforeworkingon fuel tanks or fuel systems, disconnect all battery cables from thebatteries.
