Products such as
WD-40
or
KrownPenetrant
are suitable for cleaning the dirt and grimeout, and for
‘freeingup’ gummymechanisms. Latches shouldhowever be sprayedwithproper lubricating spray
greaseafter thepenetratingand cleaning is completed.
Paddle
latches should be lubricated (white grease) every4 –6months,
or
if the paddlebecomes sticky
or restricted. Toaccess this area, the inside latch needs tobe removed (fourmachine screws), and the
insides of both theouter and inner latchmechanisms need tobe sprayedwith lubricant.
Make sure the
paddle slides and lock tumblers are linedup, as the latch is re-assembled.
Lock cylinders shouldbe sprayed (preferablywitha tubeapplicator through the key entry) witha
combination penetrating / lubricating solutionafter everywash. Thiswill keep the grimeout and keep
them from freezing.
