FUELSYSTEM
–Alsosee IndustryUniqueSection
As discussedunder "HeatManagement", SectionE0103, fuel tanks and fuel filler and vent lines
arenot to
beundercoated.
E0701
FUELFILLER
•
Useonly aFord specified fuel cap. Caps other than theFordoriginal (suchas aftermarket
lockinggas caps) areunacceptable.
•
Screws over or directed towards the fuel tank, fuel filler hose(s), or vent hose(s) are
unacceptable.
•
Kinks in fuel filler hoses or filler vent hoses areunacceptable.
•
Sink traps (low spots in fuel filler or vent hoses) areunacceptable. A continuous downslope
from the fuel fill pipe to the tank inlet shouldbemaintained for both the fill hoseand the vent
hose. (Refer to the
BodyBuildersLayout Bookand the IncompleteVehicleManual
).
•
Thepossibility of the fill and/or vent hose saggingdue toageandheat is tobe considered in
any design. Additional support for thehose(s)may be required. The fuel fill and vent hoses
suppliedwith the chassismay be cut into two sections anda seamless tube inserted to
provide routing flexibility andperformance consistency.
•
The total lengthof the fuel fill and vent hoses usedon the vehiclemust not exceed the total
lengthof eachhose suppliedwith the chassis.
E0702
Nounfriendly surfaces arepermittednear the fuel tanks, fuel lines or fuel fill and vent hoses,
includingduring thebuildprocess. (For example, fasteners for bodymount brackets, seats, or
sub floors; or new chassis components, suchas air suspension valves that could lead toa
possiblepuncture ina vehicle crash condition, must not point towards these critical fuel system
components.)
E0703
If the fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel fill/vent lines, or evaporativeemissions systems aremodified,
compliancemust bedemonstrated to:
•
EPAandCARBevaporativeemissions standards (gasoline)
•
FMVSS301
See the latest revision tobulletinQ96at
for LEV II emissions
informationand fuel system component suppliers.
E0704
If thebuildermodifies theOEM fuel fill or deviates from the IVM specifications, thebuildermust
conduct anddocument function verification testingon each fuel filler systemdesign. The tests
must verify a customer acceptable fill rate for eachmodel/configurationmanufactured. If no
industry standard is inplace, as aminimum, use ten (10) gallons perminute for gasoline fueled
vehicles and fourteen (14) gallons perminute for diesel fueled vehicles.

EXHAUSTSYSTEM
–Alsosee IndustryUniqueSection
E0801
Donot routeelectrical wires, fuel lines, or heater and refrigerant hoses over or close to the
exhaust system. Route themoutside the frame rail if on the same sideof the vehicleas exhaust
or routeonopposite sideof vehicle fromexhaust.
E0802
Only 409 stainless steel or aluminized steel shouldbeusedwhen lengtheningpipes. The
clampingonof extensions is preferable towelding. Extensions shouldextendbeyond vehicle
body.
E0803
Donot apply body undercoatingon theexhaust system, heat shields, or within12 inches of the
areadirectly above theexhaust or onany componentswithin12 inches of theexhaust. (Refer
to IndustryUniqueSection).
