Charging/Electrical Systems
There are four components common to the electrical charging circuits of eachmodel of ambulance
built byCrestline.
These items are:
1)O.E.M factorybattery
2)Dedicated conversionbattery
3)Highoutput alternator
4) Fast idle throttle control
O.E.M factorybattery
One factorybatterywill be locatedunder the hood. The second factorybatterywill be located in the
side stepwell of the conversion. The chassis comeswith theGMOEM ambulance preppackage. It
consists of two 145 amp GM alternators and an OEM auto throttle. Crestline then separates the
alternators and installs 2dedicated ambulancebatteries.
To ensure satisfactorybatteryperformance, battery terminal cleanliness is essential.
DedicatedConversionBattery
The ambulance battery is installed in the exterior compartment on the left hand side of themodular
ambulance body. These batteries provides power to all conversion circuits. This includes all
warning lights, sirens, patient compartment lights, HVAC, etc. Since the current drain due to the
ambulance load is oftenprolonged, the ambulance battery is aDeepCycleR.V typematched to this
typeof load.
