Battery Isolator
The battery isolator, which is located in the Electrical Control Centre, allows the alternator to charge
the factory and ambulance batteries independently. For example, if the conversion side experiences a
load of sixty amps, but the factory side has a load of forty amps, the isolator allows the alternator to
feedeach side theproper currentwhilepreventing thebatteries fromcross-feedingeachother.
Normally, the isolator requiresno regularmaintenance.
Fast IdleThrottleControl
The fast idle throttle control is automatically engaged when the unit is placed in park with the
emergencybrake applied. It advances the engineRPM so that the alternator canproducevery close to
its rated output when the ambulance is at a scene. (The higher RPM also promotes better engine
cooling, especially if the air conditioner is running.) Depending on the make of chassis, the throttle
control is set tomaintainengineRPMbetween1200and1400.
The throttle control is connected such that it can only function if the vehicle is stationary with the
gearshift selector in Park. If you do not use the emergency brake, a light mounted on the dash will
flash.
The chassis is supplied with a factory Auxiliary Idle Control Module that Crestline installs. More
information about set up and operation can be found in the attached instructions at the back of this
section. The systemmust beused toensure theelectrical systemoperatesproperly
