ISSUE:
The Crestline added circuit for the front switch panel backlighting may be causing the
Ford Smart Junction Box (SJB) to fail. If the SJB circuit fails, the backlighting for the OEM
gauges will fail as well.
ACTION:
Check the function of the backlighting for the OEM gauges. If the OEM backlighting
has failed, diagnose the concern and repair, and then perform the following modification.
Remove the power supply for the backlighting circuit and re-supply it with the clearance light
circuit power.
SERVICE PROCDURE: LABOUR TIME: 0.3 hrs - Bill to Crestline Coach
1. Locate the fuses numbered 40 and 41 in the ambulance side electrical panel.
2. Test these fuses to find the wires supplying power to the fuses (unplug a wire from each
fuse and using a test light check for power at the wire or fuse terminal to determine the
power supply wire – the clearance lights must be turned on).
3. Unplug the power supply side of fuse #40. Insulate the wire and leave disconnected.
4. Make up a jumper wire using a spade splitter terminal to plug onto the power supply wire
to fuse #41 and jump to the fuse #40 input terminal. (If a splitter terminal is not available,
splice the jumper wire to the power source wire for fuse #41).
5. Attach a label stating “BACKLIGHT MOD” to the jumper wire to mark that this
modification has been performed.
